Google Messages Hack Enables Free AI Access on Flights via RCS
Passengers can now bypass costly in-flight Wi-Fi by leveraging Google’s Rich Communication Services (RCS) to access Gemini AI through Android devices. Tech journalist Rita El Khoury demonstrated the workaround during an Air France flight, utilizing the free messaging plan to interact with Gemini without SMS fees.
While the AI’s image generation remains functional, features like LINK previews and text formatting are restricted. The discovery highlights an inventive use of existing infrastructure to circumvent aviation’s notoriously expensive connectivity options.
